Let me break it down for you:

Updated: Jul 11, 2025

For frequent flyers and luxury travelers, choosing the right business class experience can make all the difference. Thanks (or not thanks) to my excessive shopping, I've raked up a good amount of points for redemptions on these three OneWorld partner airlines.

Cathay Pacific, Emirates, and Qantas - which one stands out the most? Let's break down their offerings in terms of lounge experience, seating, entertainment, dining, service, and overall value.

Lounge Experience

Cathay Pacific

Cathay Pacific’s The Pier lounge in Hong Kong is truly the best in the world, offering private day suites, noodle bars, tea house and luxurious shower facilities. Feel free to check out my The Pier vs The Wing comparison post!

Emirates

I flew Emirates’ Business Class on the SYD-CHR and CHR-SYD routes, so I can only review based on what I thought about the Emirates lounge in Sydney Kingsford Airport and the Manaia Lounge at Christchurch International Airport.

Emirates Lounge -

Manaia Lounge -

Qantas

Qantas’ Business Lounges, are known for their stylish design and excellent food options. We often visit the one in Sydney as we have complimentary lounge passes from American Express Qantas credit cards. On this occasion, I was flying from HON-SYD. The Honlulu lounge is well tucked away from traffic.

Seating & Comfort

Cathay Pacific

Cathay Pacific’s business class features a reverse herringbone layout, ensuring privacy and direct aisle access for all passengers. Their seats convert into fully flat beds, with high-quality bedding and ample storage space. The A350 and 777-300ER fleets offer one of the most comfortable and spacious designs. I also can’t wait to try their new ARIA seats, which promise an even better experience.

Emirates

Emirates’ business class varies by aircraft. On the A380, passengers enjoy fully flat seats, direct aisle access, and an onboard bar. The Boeing 777 business class, however, has a 2-3-2 configuration, which can be less private. The luxurious finishes and soft leather seats add a touch of elegance, though some travelers prefer the extra privacy of herringbone layouts.

Qantas

Qantas’ Business Suite, available on the A330 and 787 Dreamliner, offers lie-flat seats in a 1-2-1 configuration. The "Do Not Disturb" feature allows more personal space, while the comfortable bedding by Sheridan enhances sleep quality. The Airbus A380's refreshed business class cabin provides a similar experience with added space and modernized interiors.

Entertainment & Amenities

Cathay Pacific

Cathay offers a well-curated entertainment system with a solid selection of movies, TV shows, and music. Their high-quality headphones enhance the experience, and the addition of ARIA seats will likely elevate comfort further. It's a product that I can't wait to experience!

Emirates

Emirates boasts one of the best inflight entertainment systems, ICE, which includes over 5,000 channels of content. Their Bulgari amenity kits, along with the onboard bar on the A380, add an extra touch of luxury.

Qantas

Qantas’ inflight entertainment is extensive, with a great selection of Australian and international content. The airline also provides comfortable PJs, which make long-haul flights more enjoyable. Unfortuantely they have limited sizings available (M onwards), so the PJ does not fit very well on me.

Dining & Beverages

Cathay Pacific

Green dragon drink is highly recommended!

When I was flying out of Seoul, they offered bimbibap on their menu, while when I was flying out of Hong Kong, _____

Cathay Pacific’s menu blends Cantonese flavors with international options, curated by top chefs. The airline offers an excellent selection of fine wines and teas, with dishes served on elegant tableware.

Emirates

Emirates offers an extensive menu inspired by global cuisines, complemented by premium wines and champagne. A highlight is the A380’s onboard lounge, where passengers can enjoy canapés and cocktails mid-flight.

Qantas

Qantas collaborates with top Australian chefs like Neil Perry to create seasonal, restaurant-quality meals. Their wine selection showcases Australian labels, and the airline’s commitment to fresh ingredients ensures a top-tier dining experience.

Service & Hospitality

Cathay Pacific

On the first flight, I picked a seat in a far corner at the back for privacy (selfie session was in full swing), yet I was able to get enough attention from the staff when needed. On the second flight, it was the same and very consistent. Their cabin crew seems to know when to come to you and when to leave you alone - that is so precious, and to me, that is being professional and personal! There was also no judgment when I asked for more desserts. Lol.

Emirates

I think I will always remember my first Emirates business flight - also my first ever with this airline. Shortly after we board the aircraft, a cabin crew approached me and asked if I want to try wear their hat! I was surprised, but yes, took on the challenge and took some photos with another few cabin crew - they are all so pretty! That's definitely the best ice breaker.

On the return flight, the cabin crew took intitative to engage in conversations with us, and took many polariod for us as well! They heard that we just got married in Nov, and encouraged us to show them our first dance. We did that - 30,000ft in the sky!

Qantas

What I liked most about Qantas crew member is how the Australian slang reminds me of home. After a three weeks long vacation in US, I was missing Sydney a bit! They tend to have a more relaxed approach and don’t always seem eager to serve passengers as quickly as other airlines.

Conclusion

If I had to pick just one, it would be Emirates. Personally, I like chatty and friendly crew members, so Emirates stands out the most for me. The onboard bar was so much fun, and the Bulgari amenties was also a big plus!

In second place, Cathay Pacific shines with its award-winning pre-departure lounge and excellent food offerings.

Then, Qantas for its incredibly comfortable PJs and Australian wine.
